Who is Jesus?
Jesus is by far the most influential person in the history of mankind. This is not just because of the sheer number of people who follow him, but because of his very nature of being God in flesh. As you seek the truth of who Jesus is, we pray that these videos help give you a bigger picture of the true story of the whole world, and how God's grace and mercy can cover a multitude of sins.
The Biblical Story
As my professor in my master's program said, the bible is "The True Story of the Whole World." This statement was carefully crafted to communicate that the Bible is telling an accurate account of historical events that brings all of cosmic reality redemption. We will cover more of these terms in videos below, but let's first start here.
So why is Jesus so important?
Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament scriptures. This means that God created the world and promised that someone would come to save it from sin that now plagues it. It is through his life that he proves he is the one that everyone was waiting for in the Old Testament. Through his death and resurrection, he ultimately defeated sin and death once and for all.
So what is sin?
In order to be saved, we needed to have someone defeat sin and death. Sin is the thing that separates us from God. The Anglican catechism tells us that sin separates us in four ways: our relationship with God, our relationship with others, and our relationship with creation. Although we have been saved from sin and it has been defeated once and for all, we still deal with the consequences of sin in our world. So we wait for Jesus to come again and fully redeem this world.
What does it mean to be redeemed?
Christians often talk about God redeeming them from their past life. The true power of God is that he is redeeming all things. There have been people who have lived lives as addicts, abusers, murderers, and adulterers who have all experienced God rescuing them from their circumstances into a new life. But God did not just come for these kinds of people, but instad for all sinners. This also means those who are wealthy, those who think they have it all together, those who do dishonest business, and so many more. There is no one who is righteous and does not need the saving grace of God.
God loves you.
Jesus loves you and has died for you. It is this very reason that God sent his son into the world that all might be saved.
